Since its foundation in 1849, Mazzucchelli 1849  has made a steep ascent to become one of the leading names in the manufacture and distribution of cellulose acetate, which is a traditional material for the production of sunglasses and spectacles. In fact, the family company from the Italian town of Castiglione Olona is the name to turn to when looking for innovative and exclusive components for the production of spectacles. However, Mazzucchelli 1849 is more than a mere producer of plastic components; the company regards itself as a manufacturer of colors, effects and design.

 

The history of the company has an experience that moves from the mid-nineteenth century. In 1849 Santino Mazzucchelli (1827-1890), a native of Venegono Superiore, started his workshop for the production of buttons and objects in bovine horn. After moving to Milan between 1851 and 1858, after that date he set up a factory in Castiglione Olona which quickly established itself. In 1869 the company already employed 200 workers. From the mid-seventies Santino Mazzucchelli left the management of the factory to his sons Pompeo (1857-1946) and Angelo (the latter after a few years retired from business). At the end of the nineteenth century Pompeo Mazzucchelli became interested in celluloid, and in 1906 he set up a new factory in Castiglione for processing this promising material.
